2012 Chinese New Year Charm Bracelet

Handcrafted 2012 Chinese New Year Bracelet
This festive handcrafted bracelet is based on the Chinese Zodiac Calendar in celebration of the 'Year of the Dragon'.
Hawaii is a blending of different nationalities and cultures. My Ohana is is no different. We have always celebrated and honored the Chinese New Year traditions. I created this bracelet with a little oriental flavor. It not only reflects the holiday celebration but is both vibrant and colorful.
The design of this piece was based on the European style beads used in the Pandora, Troll, Chamilia, and Biagi style beaded charm bracelets. We have specially selected these beads for their greatest effect when combined. It is a unique and a one of a kind bracelet that can be worn year round. No two bracelets will ever be alike.
Description:
Materials:
Snake chain bracelet with a lobster clasp approximately 6.3" to 9.1" + 2" (16cm-23cm+5cm)
Silver-toned metal alloy charms, bails, and spacers (nickel free)
Murano Lampwork bead with .925 stamped grommets approximately 0.55" (14mm)
Orange Cat Eye glass pearl drop beads approximately 0.51" (13mm)
Crystal cross beads approximately 1.26" x 0.51" (32 x 13mm)
In Chinese culture the color:
Red symbolizes good fortune, joy, happiness, and wealth for you in the new year. The color red is infused in both the beads and crystals.
Yellow symbolizes success in school and/or job. There are touches of yellow on the Murano Lampwork beads and in a crystal that was added.
Orange symbolizes money. I have added beautiful Cat Eye glass pearl drop beads for added good fortune.
White symbolizes health, the unknown, and purity. I am a great believer in that the truest blessing you may have in life is your health.
Silver symbolizes metal (income, wealth), romance, and trustworthiness. Although not a part of the traditional color elements in Chinese Philosophy, it is a metal I have always favored over others.
A Dragon symbolizes the possession of supernatural powers, strength, success, luck, and honor. I am a avid collector of Dragon statues and themed designed weapons. I have always greatly admired what they stood for, power and strength. 'Every day I must draw on the power to move forward in life and on the strength to carry its burdens.'
This bracelet was designed to honor the 'Year of the Dragon'. I have also added charms to this unique bracelet in order to ensure the wearer is blessed throughout the new year.

Year of the Dragon Celebration
Gong Hee Fot Choy – for Mandarin
Kung Hei Fat Choi – for Cantonese
Chinese lunar New Year is commonly known as Chinese New Year or spring festival. This is an important annual festival celebrated by Chinese round the globe. The festival is based on Chinese calendar and starts on the first month (as per the Chinese calendar) and ends on the fifteenth day of the first month. Chinese new year 2012 will be celebrated on 23rd of January and is the year of Dragon, the most auspicious animal as per the Chinese zodiac. In China the Chinese New Year holiday is celebrated from January 21st through January 29th.
We will be creating a special section under 'Holiday Celebrations' soon in honor of the Chinese New Year Celebrations. Our items will be based on the celebration for the Year of the Dragon!

A favorite recipe from home:
BAKED COCONUT MILK GAU
- 5 cups mochiko (sweet or glutinous rice flour)
- 3 cups lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups coconut milk (stir prior to measuring as it may have separated)
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 (18-ounce) can tsubushian (chunky azuki bean paste)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9-by-13-inch baking dish: Line the pan with aluminum foil, allowing foil to extend over the ends to form handles to aid in getting the gau out of the pan. Coat with oil spray.
In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
Makes 20 servings.
Fact: Oranges. In Chinese the word for "Orange" sounds nearly identical to the word for "Gold," so oranges are eaten to promote wealth in the New Year.
